IRON INFUSIONS
– FERINJECT
At Mona Vale Medical Centre we have multiple GP’s that are your local Northern Beaches doctors who can provide Ferinject Iron Infusions.
You must see one of our doctors for an appointment to discuss this treatment option.
You need to see one of the following doctors:
- Dr Mack Deng
- Dr Lachlan McArthur
- Dr Maciej Mazurek
- Dr Sam Rojo
If the doctor determines you are eligible for this treatment, you will be given a script to get the Ferinject from a pharmacy. The cost varies between pharmacies, but roughly it is around $40.
The cost to have the infusion at Mona Vale Medical Centre is $250 (you will receive a Medicare rebate of $73).
Iron infusion is a procedure in which iron is delivered to your body intravenously, meaning into a vein through a needle. This method of delivering medication or supplementation is also known as an intravenous (IV) infusion.

Side Effects:
We suggest you do some research about possible reactions, in particular about staining at the site of the infusion.
It is important to be aware that there is a possibility of staining and this is often not listed as a possible side effect from the medication itself. The carboxymaltose product information notes a frequency of 1-10/1000
At Mona Vale Medical Centre our GP’s take all precautions they can to limit any possible staining.
